My husband and I were thinking of purchasing a Subaru Outback. Everything we've heard and read about them is good. However, it seems that some people have mentioned problems with vibration/shaking.
Has anyone who owned an Outback experienced this problem or any other problem that we should know about? And can anyone suggest a good SUV with pretty good ground clearance? Thanks much.

My dad and brother drive outbacks. Never had this problem.
Get the Outback with the 265 HP engine. That car looks fun to drive.
If you go to an outback forum, there is mention of what is called steering wheel shakes. I have read about it and it only manifested itself when they did a redesign of the vehicle in 2010. I do believe it is much less of a problem now than when the redesign first came out. best way to check is to take the vehicle out on the highway up to 70mph.
You can also check out the forester, 4Runner, xterra, FJ Cruiser. It all depends on what you want to do with the vehicle and how much you wish to spend.

If anything Subarus have a distinct NVH advantage over other 4- and 6-cylinder cars because the engines are naturally balanced. Vibration can be a bit of an issue for Subarus because the unique "boxer" cylinder configuration pushes the cylinders side-to-side relative to the car, and sometimes you can detect that side-to-side movement at idle. But once you step on the gas and get moving, it smooths right out. I've owned 12 4-cylinder cars, and of those the Subaru I owned was the only one whose engine could could conceivably described as "smooth" even if it wasn't so smooth at idle.
I never encountered that with the new model and I did several months of driving them nearly every day fast on race tracks and off road courses(yes you read that right).
The 3.6 model is the one to have.
