I love this radio station. KDHX has REALLY expanded my musical tastes over the years, so it makes me sad that they're experiencing troubles and controversy.
Anyone here familiar with what's going on? Any thoughts or insights?
Just for some background...KDHX is a community radio station based in St. Louis. It's a publicly funded non-profit radio station, funded in part by listener donations, and in part by underwriting from St. Louis businesses. I believe all of their DJs are volunteers.
At a spring board meeting, A letter of no confidence signed by 32 then-current volunteers and 16 former volunteers asked for the removal of Kelly Wells as the station’s executive director. Apparently, Kelly has made many gaffes. So THAT was in the Spring. In August and September many of the volunteer DJs were let go. Some of the DJs had long running, popular radio shows. From what I can tell, they were let go because of the letter of no confidence that many of them signed.
Today I was listening, and Kelly Wells (Executive Director) and 'a man' (I don't know who it was for sure) were discussing everything going on, and they implied that at the bottom of all this is racism, systemic, structural racism.
I have no inside information. I tend to align myself with the DJs, and I'm already missing some of their programs...but I don't know anything really.
Just wondering...anyone else know what's REALLY going on?
