Former VP Dick Cheney used to go duck hunting there sometimes. Other than that, there's just not much to write home about. What may help it in the long run is its proximity to Charleston.
lots of swamp in that area, row crops, and pine timber. pretty typical of the SC I95 corridor. great place to hunt and fish. the people I know from that area have been rough around the edges, but good folks. I can't think of anything that makes it stand out, though. For some reason I associate Colleton with really good vinegar BBQ sauce.
I will be visiting Walterboro for the fourth time in July. I hope to retire there in about four years. I have visited the courthouse, insurance agencys, the FEMA office, realtors. Every place I visited, restuarants, stores, I encountered nice people. It is convienant to Charleston and Edisto Beach. I think a home in the country there would be a nice place to live.
It is good out there if you want to have a rural lifestyle and get more land for the money. Walterboro has some modern conveniences, but the downtown is just one big giant antique shop. Literally!
