I used to feel the same way about Morris College, wishing they would start a program. But it's been made clear, that the administration there don't want anything to do with that. They would get strong support from the community and would be a great way to spend a Saturday evening. And could start play at Sumter High stadium, that place is always packed during the season.
Yeah FMU has been growing and this would seem like a natural progression especially given the interest/support for football in the Pee Dee. I have never been to Wilson HS Homecoming but it was big in the 90s and now I hear that its HUGE and rivals many small college homecomings. Again, I know its apples and oranges given the history/age of Wilson HS. But, I can say the same for USC in Columbia. There are many folks that fly Gamecock flags and support the team and have not set foot on campus.. I think their access to the games due to the cost and somewhat competitive nature of getting tickets may prevent many from attending but there is a great deal of local support/pride. Again just my perception. I grew up in Columbia and remember Big Spur and the evolution to Cocky... the infamous "fire ants" and various uniform changes were all publicly involved and celebrated. I can only imagine in a smaller city where the players are fielded from the smaller surrounding towns and communities that LOVE football

Football at FMU would be great for the Pee Dee, and I'm sure would get lots of support. However, something is telling me that Coastal Carolina probably wouldn't be too happy about that. They may see it as encroaching on their market, the two schools are only about 50 miles apart.

Yeah I think Coastal has FMU beat.. They have a really nice campus and the beach would keep them getting better talent than a would be FMU team.. But who knows... FMU doesnt want to spend the money from what I hear from alumni that are on various boards committee.. I think they need to find a sponsor. There are quite a few major corporations/industries in Florence that could help support but..I dont think its a priority for the school which is fine.. So.. GO PATS BASEBALL...now if Coker University or Morris College get a team...I will be back on this thread...LOL
