Forgive me, dear, but you won't live "in" the island, but "on" it, and unless you have quite a bit of money, you'll probably be living "off" it. My son's 2BR
condo was $200K, near the island. Be sweet.
What are some of the nicer communities there? We were looking at Bluffton.
I hear it's growing very fast.
Not sure - he works on the island and is fairly close to the main overpass. His place in Bluffton is close to a salt marsh and near the wildlife preserve - when I visited him, there was a great deal of construction going on. I was a little leery about him buying, but I have no doubt that home values will be stable where he is - where else can one golf in January - and he will be able to sell should he get transferred. He was able to look around - the company put him up for 6 weeks. His other choice was Savannah.

Are you still considering HHI or have you already moved here?
There are some great opportunities right now to buy lots or homes.
We are hoping to relocate to HHI next year....we will need to sell our house in Atlanta first...so we'll see when we can do it! How is the real estate market doing there? We are looking at Hilton Head Plantation, since we have two small children and want a neighborhood with other families w/children.
We are so excited about the prospect of living there full-time, since we have visited for YEARS...but we're also a little nervous about whether it's a good place to raise children (i.e. enough opportunities for the kids, good schools, etc).
Any thoughts?
Thanks!
There are plenty of schools, sporting teams, sailing and swimming lessons, a youth orchestra and a ballet.... and if they get tired of those activities, they can turn to kayaking, gardening, horseback riding and golf. Plenty of active churches too.
the schools here are well rated, and of course the prvte schools are very good as they cater to the the heartless wealthy. Segregation of classes is alive and well here on the Island, and the haves and have nots do not mix. IN fact, there are degrees of have that do not mix with the have most and more... it really is entertaining at times to watch these rich snots operate. but then, I am out of the work force so I can sit back and not be affected by these romneyite robots.
For those who needs a lesson in class societies, this is much cheaper than a trip to europe, and the weather is better. If you are able to afford a meager abode and pay over 100K's for a two bedroom condo, and you love golf you will love it here. I walk the beaches with my little dog, and write, so for me it's fine.
If you are a young person with a family, and in the service industry, I'd stay away.
