The ONLY HUGE PROBLEM I SEE, Them FOLDING With so Many Teams. Unheard of in any League in the WORLD
The population of the USA and Canada is huge, compared to other leagues. (~366 million.) Even with soccer being only the fourth largest sport in the USA, that's still a lot of potential followers. I think we could sustain a league with 30-32 teams. The biggest problem is the geographic scope and the amount of travel teams have to complete. The MLS may need to further split up the league and focus even more on games against our nearest neighbors. Cross-country trips should be minimized, with extra time allowed for the trip.

There is just too far of a gap between a team's top players and their worst. I agree that it's simply too many teams, with a rather small pool of TALENTED players. I follow Orlando City very closely, and the gap between the top players and the bottom is something I don't see in any other pro league team. Many of the players on the squad belong in the USL, or at least in a league between USL and MLS.

At least on the Sounders, I'm seeing less of a talent gap than in the past. In the old days, the subs could be quite awful, but now they can usually put up a decent game. A lot of that is from experienced youngsters being brought up through the academy program. Sure, you still want your top players in there, but it's no longer as uncomfortable sending in second stringers now, and they are likely to keep improving.
