Hello Everyone,

I will be retiring from the Military after 24 years in the not too distant future. My wife and I have South Dakota, specifically the Sioux Falls area as our top location for starting our life after the military.

We are hoping some might be able to provide some recommendations on areas/cities to look into that come close to our wants.

Good Schools (5 year old)
Preferably outside of Sioux Falls but close enough to commute for work and shopping necessities (Wife is a NP and I will pursuing a job in the investing world to put my MBA to use)
We like our space, so country or a neighborhood where the houses are not too close
We hunt and try to grow the majority of our main veggies, and are interested in having chickens

Thank you in advance.

David

Hartford is close to Sioux Falls and has really improved by leaps and bounds over the last 20 years.

I'd suggest Brandon, Harrisburg, Lennox, Dell Rapids and Tea. These towns are pretty close to but not part of Sioux Falls itself.

As far as schools go, you will need to make sure and check out the school boundaries. At least in Sioux Falls (i.e. within the city limits), there are at least 3 different school districts (SF, Brandon Valley, Harrisburg and ??). Where I live, I am within 1 mile of a SF elementary school, a SF middle school, and a Brandon Valley school, but I'm in the BV school district.
