I used to get many. They finally ended my favorite two - Martha Stewart Living, and Oprah. They were the only two subscriptions i had left. I loved Oprah because there was so much to actually read in it. And Martha's mag was so beautiful to look thru. Now you can only read them online.
I'm looking for a couple new ones to subscribe to but i have no idea what to choose.
Being a "car guy", I've subscribed to a number of automobile oriented magazines, over the last 50 years. I'm sorry to see that a number of them have stopped being published.
I only purchase exceptionally interesting/useful ones, or a collector's item one. Other than that, a lot of traditional magazines and newspapers have gone to the online format.
Back in the 90s & early 2000s, I must have subscribed to about 10 mags. Throughout the years, I've still subscribed & browsed at the bookstores. Sometimes, I get emails where I can get a full subscription of a choice of mags for as low as $2 & I'd order a few...they're so cheap, so why not. I've always liked mags!
We've gone from many subscriptions to none (other than the free magazines that I get from a couple of organizations that I belong to.)
My folks subscribed for years to The Atlantic and The New Yorker. Both magazines had a standing offer to buy an additional subscription as a gift for a nominal additional fee. So they got me a gift subscription every year. After they died, I subscribed to Apple News, which lets me browse through those and several others. Now when I google something and find an article I want to read hidden behind a paywall, I quick check apple news to see if I can read it there, and often am successful.
I still pick up Yankee Magazine every other month at the supermarket. I could subscribe cheaper, but they will sell your address to every magazine that's left in North America and you will be crushed with junk mail.
I did subscribe to The Atlantic Monthly at one time, but not since they have jumped on the liberal propaganda bandwagon (imo), but I have not ever subscribed to any magazine since then for the simple reason that I refuse to pay 'x' amount of dollars for, at most, one hour's worth of reading -- and for most mags like "People" (for example), I can get through one of those in less than 30 minutes. I refuse to pay $6.00 for a magazine when I can buy a used book of 400 pages (or whatever) for less than $5.00-- or even just one dollar at my local library -- that provides several hours of entertainment or information.
NOTE: I do receive the monthly issue of National Review, however, but that is because it is a part of their online subscription.
