most of them were shot trying to escape, sure a few made it, more by luck than judgement, but the numbers weren't high. the difference with the Mexican wall is that there will be an armed soldier on the side they are trying to escape to.

She doesn't realize in a round about way her argument is proving that walls are effctive.

Does the phrase, "posse comitatus" ring a bell?

Not even round about. Her argument proves the wall Will be effective, period.

Not so much an armed soldier, but border patrol or possibly militia. Most importantly, this will cause our enemies to expend vast resources to move very few people and very little contraband across the border, rather than just drive it across in that truck that MrsRosencranz said they will use to get there. It will turn a deluge into a trickle.

On the fun side, wait until they try to pull eminent domain on those border ranchers. The Bundy Ranch standoff would be a Sunday school picnic by comparison. When they try to chop ranches in half, deny cattle ranchers access to the Rio Grande or cut Indian reservations in half you will see Americans in armed conflict with their government. Flying around in those black helicopters might be hazardous to your health.

Anybody who thinks we could really build a wall coast to coast for only $40 billion still believes in the tooth fairy. I worked up a quick guestimate on the project and came up with a minimum of $130 billion, and probably a max of around $300 billion. Then you have to maintain the thing. Forget the steel spike wall. The scrappers would be tearing it down behind you before it ever got built.

Meanwhile, dig those tunnels. We all know how the Great Wall worked for China. It didn't. By the time a civilization falls to invaders, it has already collapsed from within.
What an amazing post. Seriously, I doubt that you have removed your front door and leave your garage door open at night.
Being on the wrong side on every topic must be tiresome.

Berlin wall was 100 miles long, 12,000 guards in order to surveil it, everyday 24/7. 8,000 people escaped. 136 were killed trying to escape. Not "most were killed and a few made it through." The Berlin Wall wasn't just a wall. It was 4 layers of security including spikes, barbed wire and dogs. And it was unbelievably expensive to maintain.

Do you really think that were are going to have 3 shifts of 240,000 border patrol agents guarding the wall. Hah!!!!!!! Or have them shooting people in an era of cellphone activists with access to youtube and the rest of the internet?

Dudes. Do research before posting. Most of you are jokes. Look how long and how much effort you spent on the "try throwing a 2lb grappling hook!" irrelevant argument.

I can see a concerted effort to having a drone army. But the wall, hell no. It won't stop the drugs and it won't stop terrorists. The people will still find a way through.

Just like a minefield, walls don't need to be 100% effective to serve their purpose. They make it easier to guard a frontier, requiring less expenditure for guards. An intelligent wall-building initiative would take that into account. The goal should be to make immigration enforcement more efficient and cost-effective.

Since 1986, the USA has spent 263 billion on immigration enforcement.

8000 got out in 50 years with a wall, plus you don't say how many got into East Germany illegally, 25+ million coming into the US illegally since the last amnesty in the 1980's without a wall...

I think you just proved again that walls and defended frontiers work.

Who said it's impossible? It's possible but it's not practical. Financially. We did send people to the moon.

HINT: Berlin Wall 1961 to 1989. That's 28 years. Not 50. That's called a fact. Something you can look up on the internet BEFORE you post.

God you're are easy. The same mistake again and again.

It's amazing that some of you think the Berlin Wall was built in 1939 before WWII. And then you expect us to be dazzled by your crummy unresearched posts. If you can't get a simple fact about a very famous historical event correct why should I believe anything you post. You are unreliable in your judgement.
