Hello,

My husband and I are relocating to Savannah, GA and we need help with the best towns/neighborhoods to live just outside of Savannah. Great school district, affordability, with stuff to do.

Any advice you can provide, we greatly appreciate it!

Thanks

What about inside Savannah? It is walkable, beautiful, lots to do. Southside neighborhoods and/or downtown renos may be affordable. Is your main concern criminals? There are safe areas. Refer to threads here on this.

She didn't mention crime. Maybe she wants some grit in her life. Who knows? She didn't give a budget for "greatness ". How can we even begin to help the OP? Outside of Savannah could be Bluffton. Or Pooler.
Not enough info.

SL, just curious, why bring up "there are some safe areas" when we have so many other questions to be answered first?

A guess. Which is why I asked why not inside, vs outside. You are right, the question is too general.

Southside is fairly affordable based on my Zillow hobbying though. I want families with jobs moving into the city. So we can push that stuff on the west side further west.

General request, general response:

Pooler and Bloomingdale are within the Chatham County limits and seem reasonably affordable, but Pooler is growing so rapidly that its complexion changes every few years. Most of Effingham County fits the nice towns and schools, but lacks in the things-to-do department. Towns include Rincon, Guyton, Springfield. Similarly, Bryan County schools are pretty good, though Richmond Hill would be the only town I can see with things to do. Folks in these two counties tend to rely on Savannah for entertainment options, since Savannah is less than an hour away.

As with any relocation thread, the two main questions that MUST be answered first are:

1. Where will you be working
2. What is your budget

So, therefore is it then safe to say that posters with a general type question, without stating a budget or location of work are limited to Pooler or Richmond? And is it also safe to say that both these places offer "things to do" for transplants from NYC or Cali or a small mid- west town? If that's the case we should make it a sticky and cut down the number of questions regarding re-location. Sounds too simple to me and I agree with Newsboy regarding key info missing.

OP asked for towns outside of Savannah that are safe with good schools. For things to do, one goes to Savannah. A vague answer for a vague question.

I totally agree with you other than your interpretation of "things to do" meant, I'm certain, in the town we are recommending ( outside of Savannah ).

SL assumed she thinks Savannah is overrun with criminals. I think your're sugesting Pooler and Richmond do not have things to do. That is the problem with not giving all the information necessary to get a quality opinion.
