That's just finger pointing. Even if America had an "insatiable appetite for drugs due to a paranoid, schizoid, puritanical tradition." Which is no more the case than any other country with a drug problem, including Mexico. The drug "war" in Mexico is due to the insatiable appetite of some of Mexico's people, to be the biggest, meanest drug lord they can be. There are illegal drugs manufactured right here in the old USA, but we don't have cartels running the cities, and infiltrating every police force...

When an entire police department is suspected of corruption, and held for questioning (which recently occurred n Linares, Mexico) and nobody is surprised, simply because it happened in Mexico, it means that the country has a huge problem that has nothing to due with the US.

Except that the cartels are nothing (much like street gangs), without a market to which to peddle their wares. And in order to do that, they need the power and intimidation fostered by building an arsenal of weapons in order to stay a step ahead of the competition. Good ol' USA has been more than helpful in arming these guys, and providing unlimited demand for drugs.

Mexico's corruption pales to what the government here is doing or has done.
Not too long ago the CIA was cocaine trafficking in Central America during the Reagan Administration as part of the Contra war in Nicaragua to buy arms.
Not long ago the US invaded Panama to get Noriega in prison for money laundering, even though Noriega was being paid by the CIA from the late 1950s until the 1980s.
Presently we have had a huge Wall Street bail out where the government shelled out billions to banks. but the heads of the banks got millions in raises.
I guess you call that; decent people doing the lord's work.

You know, I try to let things be for the most part, but after reading the last few pages unfortunately I just think this is thread has nowhere to go but down. I think it's time for everyone to move on. Closing thread.
