Nothing stops AI firms from intelligently investing elsewhere in the states as many other tech verticals have done. There isn't a good reason AI has to be done out of the literal city lol.

Oh there are absolutely excellent reasons.

1. Funding in SF is is unparalleled.
2. Networking with like-minded tech professionals is also unparalleled.

People are on the same page in SF--sure we can say that other places have a tech scene, absolutely, but it's really not the same, hence here we are, SF is the epicenter of yet another major tech movement.

I’m glad to hear this.
Usually you might hear people knocking down California and The City, to me it says a lot about them more so than what they are trying to slam.
I have always liked The City.
