What's the abandoned-looking house in the second photo? There are two houses together on the same property, it looks like. One doesn't seem to have windows.

People were skiing in Tilden Park, Berkeley. One area of the park was described as a "ski slope". Others were a little patchy.

I’m in the PNW right now and my mom sent me those pics.
She lives in the El Capitain area so that is where the view is from.

It hasn’t snowed on our property in Danville in a darn long time and it hasn’t stuck or built up on the ground in Danville proper since the 70’s that I know of but there has been snow in Danville numerous times.

There was a really big snow storm that hit Danville and even Lafayette (where I spent a good portion of my youth) in the early mid 70’s.

As far as having snow in “Danville” there was none built up that I’m aware of.
It might have snowed in the incorporated city limit but if it didn’t stick it would be a nothingburger to me.
I am tempted to say that in the unincorporated areas there was a dusting and a bit of build up in some of the foothill areas.

That’s an awesome pic of Tilden Ruth.
Tilden was one of my go to spots and I think the location of my actual first date with the Mrs.

That second building is probably far from abandoned.
Several of my friends have places like that.
They are normally man-caves, game rooms, pool houses, guest houses, music rooms or a combination of uses.
My neighbor has one that my kids used to call the dead animal building.
He was a hunter .
These are often great deals for quiet single people renting from senior citizens.
They kinda look after/check in with the senior for safety in exchange for next to nothing in rent.

I don't remember getting any snow when I lived in Lafayette, but I was on Mt. Diablo one day cutting firewood in the snow from a fallen tree. My brother worked there and invited me to take it after the weight of the snow knocked it over.

That snow in Tilden is amazing. My wife and I got married there, in 1974. Borrowed electricity from a ranger's cabin for the live band.

There was snow twice that I recall in Lafayette.
Once in 1973 when I was going to Stanley and once in 1976 when I was going to a
Acalanes .

Back then they used to let us drive up Mt Diablo.
Those days are long gone.

Apparently back then they even let us take wood too.
Our place is less than a mile from the lower gate.
When my kids were young we took them to Rock City a lot.
I found a nice manzanita branch I wanted to take home to make a hiking staff out of.
Mr. Park Ranger was having no part of that and I almost received a citation when I back talked him.
I guess those days of being able to take a piece of wood are long gone too.

Yeah but you kind of get don’t you? If everyone started takings souvenirs it would be bad.if you could take would someone would be up there getting piles of it for a fireplace or something.
I do remember taking portraits of A little boy there and I had brought some colorful fake fall leaves for the setting. A ranger came up to me and told me to put them back in the car because they were not native to the park. Duh.

Yeah I get it.
It’s bad for the environment too.
I personally cringe when I see amateur gold miners destroying habitats on YouTube.
While a stick is very different from a flat rock it really isn’t in the big scope of things.
I was just a young local (with a foul mouth at that) grabbing a walking stick that needed to stay there.

We got pulled over when leaving with my truck and trailer full of wood, but my brother had permission from his boss so they called him and we were able to take it and go. Even then it was not really allowed normally, but in this case we were saving them time by cutting up the fallen tree.

That explains why I never saw snow in Lafayette. I moved out to Union City in 1972, while going to Cal State in Hayward, and in 1976 was married and living in Oakland where I worked.
