All of the Austin news publications are brimming with glee over speculation that Musk will relocate Twitter from SF to Austin.

Predictably, a thread was also started in the Austin forum.

Thoughts?

If it does come to pass, would this have a net effect on SF real estate, or what that vacancy be filled by another up-and-coming tech venture?

Default Who knows?

IMO, Musk acquiring Twitter expedites Twitter's demise. Twitter will be replaced by something far superior, which likely will have a huge presence in the Bay Area. This is one of the great aspects of the Bay Area. It is one of the premier areas of the country to live, not just because of the ideal weather, but because of the highly educated population, creativity, and innovation generated here.

About real estate, because the area is such a beautiful place to live, it will always be a sought-after place to call home for those who have enough money to not be impacted by changes in the economy or exodus of a company like Twitter.

If Musk wants to move Twitter to Austin, Texas, good riddance. That is a suitable place for a company in decline because of his influence.

Twitter has been a cesspool for a while.

I hope Musk buying it makes it go away and hopefully nothing like it ever comes back to replace it.

Twitter is in a dumpy part of the city, just like Twitter is the dumpy part of the internet. Closing this office wouldn't have much of an impact on SF. I feel bad for the half dozen respectable businesses left in the area after 2 years of lockdowns. They might as well close up shop since the only business they'll have left is from folks who are there to steal. I'm sure Twitter will be equally successful in Austin. Hopefully they find as bad a part of town there, LMAO.

Well, quite a few companies moved out of both SF and Bay Area and somehow managed to survive so that's unlikely. Just look at Tesla.

I'm not a fan of either Musk or Twitter in any way but it makes me smile that all the lefties that were on it or near it are thoroughly upset. Serves them exactly right. They're been usurping the media long enough and if they lose a company or two it will just balance the scales better.

Of course one company won't make much difference but if many companies do it will. On the other hand, there are lots of people in SF that hate techies with a passion so they'll be ecstatic over this.

Ideal weather?

When did SF become LA or San Diego

I'm not convinced that a place that prides itself on innovations like artificial intelligence and phone apps that create what's known as the sharing economy is a virtue. Progress, you say? I don't think so.
