Can anyone tell me more about the Racquet Club Villas in Palm Springs? Is it in a good convenient area? Is it in a safe area?

Thank you!

If you are referring to the Racquet Club Garden Villas, then yes, it's in a relatively safe area. The complex itself is gated, though that doesn't guarantee that someone can't get in if they really want to. Convenient? Well, there isn't a whole lot up at that end of town with respect to grocery shopping, banking, and restaurants and you're a bit more than walking distance from those amenities. So there will be some driving involved.

But overall, it's not bad, though I personally wouldn't go much further north than that when it comes to finding a place to live in Palm Springs.

Why wouldn't you go much further north to find a place to live? Dangerous? Too inconvenient?

The north end of Palm Springs has never been considered a particularly desirable location, mainly because of the wind and higher crime rate compared to the rest of the city, but also the lack of the basic amenities I listed in my original post. The area between Racquet Club Drive and San Rafael is marginal with anything above San Rafael being seen as pretty much "ghetto" despite the presence of the Mountain Gate subdivision. Gateway Drive and the streets that run off of it have a long history of being home to Palm Springs gang and drug element.

During the time I lived in Palm Springs full time (1999-2006), Gateway Drive was an area that the Palm Springs PD never ventured into alone and rarely after dark due to incidents with random shots being taken at passing patrol cars. That isn't just me making that up, but is from firsthand accounts of acquaintances that worked for/with the Palm Springs police. Granted, things do change as time passes, but with the current economic situation in Palm Springs, I am not aware of any great improvements having taken place in this particular area.

The bottom line is there are and always have been better places to live in Palm Springs besides the north end.

Because of all the road construction on the 10 for the past couple of weeks, I've been taking 111 past Gateway/Windy point so I can hopefully cut down the time I spend sitting in one lane of traffic. The area is still the same - there have been no improvements. Not a very desirable location.
