It is a very short season for that fruit in San Antonio - less than 2 weeks and they will be gone. I would hate to miss it again ( I missed it last year). Anyone maybe saw it at HEB or Central Market?

They are called Italian prunes? I didn't know that. They look exactly like our normal German "house-plums". I've read that it is very difficult to cultivate them there, because of the climate and the pests?

The season over here will begin in a couple of weeks. Time for Streuselkuchen and dumplings!

I think they might be imported from overseas.
I saw them at our local grocery store last week. They were called "sugar plums" . Same thing.
Gotta to buy a lot, the season is very short

(yep, Pflaumenkuchen! my favorites, just next to the Pflaumenknödel! Yum!)

That might be the case, I think they need a colder climate, especially cold(er) winters. We have a variety over here that is called "Kuchenpflaume" and it is great for Pflaumenkuchen and, of course, Pflaumenknoedel.

I love them, my grandmother was Austrian and used to make loads of it every autumn. With potato-dough, noodle-dough, or quark-dough....melted butter and cinnamon sugar on top. Now I'm drooling.
