Hi. My job is being relocated from Florida to the Richmond area, specifically to Villa Park Drive, Richmond within the next 2 months. I've been hunting online for weeks for a 2-3 bedroom apartment/condo for under $1200/month with less than 30 min commute to work, an excellent elementary school (i have two kids, 7 and 4), a safe neighborhood and shopping/amenities close by. I've been recommended Glen Allen, Midlothian, and Mechanicsville by peers so far. With Glen Allen being the closest to work and it seems having among the top elementary schools in the state, it is on top of my list so far. The following communities seem nice online but would appreciate some feedback from this forum: The Links, Legends at Virginia Center, The Gardens at Twin Hickory, and Crossings at Short Pump. Any feedback on these as well as recommendations for any others would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

The school assignments would be strongest at the Gardens or the Crossings. The Gardens is newer than the Crossings and that would be my choice. The schools in this part of the county are some of the best in the state. The schools by Virginia Center are good, but not as good. I'd recommend you use google and find a website with apartment reviews (if I link, it generally will be removed).

ETA: The Gardens is part of Twin Hickory which is a very nice master planned community with sidewalks and a pool. Twin Hickory Elementary has a terrific playground (with a sun shade).
