Hi All,

This family of four will be relocating to Glen Allen or Midlothian within the next 2 months or so. We are visiting there this weekend to look at apartment complexes and the best high schools we can find for our rising 10th grader. We prefer Glen Allen due to the proximity to other things we need but can opt for either.

We'd like to solicit informed opinions on overall satisfaction with the following high schools: Glen Alen, Deep Run, Cosby, Midlothian. We are current with the test scores and such but are seeking best overall climate of learning, reputation and community for the students.

Apartments: we will be renting for 6-12 months before we decide where and what to purchase. Looking for ringing endorsements of apartment communities where a 3 bedroom would be $1500 or less. We have appointments for this weekend to check out a few but their sales pitch does not trump experiences of C-Ders.

We obviously want our residence to lie in the assigned area for the high school.

Thanks for any input you can provide us with. Looking forward to the move; it's long overdue.

Any reason you are not considering Godwin in Western Henrico? Godwin and Deep Run are both considered the top high schools in Henrico. Godwin pulls from neighborhoods that are a bit older than what Deep Run pulls from, but both have excellent reputations. There was a big stink when Glen Allen opened because they pulled kids out of Deep Run and the parents were not happy. Deep Run pulls from a more homogeneous, more affluent population than Glen Allen.

Not sure what the price range is, but the Gardens at Twin Hickory is an easy walk to Deep Run as well as the Twin Hickory library, which is fantastic, the YMCA, and a small shopping center with a Food Lion and some restaurants.

Congrats on the move! We moved back to Richmond from Cary in 2008 and never looked back. Schools are fantastic and the area doesn't suffer from the growing pains to the extent that area does.

I think Godwin was also on the wife's list, and we will plug it back in at the top. Your input is very valuable and appreciated! We actually visited the Gardens at Twin Hickory and toured some units. It is real close by Deep Run, for sure. We liked the area. Bertucci's! Promise to look you up when we finally move! Thanks again.
