I'm 19 years old and just moved here, currently staying with my grandmother...but looking to find a one bedroom apartment as soon as possible. I've been looking on craigslist and all of the apartments I'm seeing in the Church Hill/Chimborazo Park area seem/are unsafe (my grandmother says that I should just avoid Church Hill all together). I read reviews for Somerset Glen apartments and those aren't safe either..

I know crime can happen anywhere and everywhere, but there have got to be safer areas to live that won't break my bank.

So, can any of you please recommend any areas to avoid and somewhat..safe areas of Richmond to live that won't cost anything above $500 a month? If I have to get a roommate, then so be it! And if anyone knows of any Apartment Agencies that can show me places around the city, then please let me know!

Oh, and I just got a job in Short Pump and I may be working til 2am some nights, so I'd like to be able to walk to my place without worrying about getting mugged (I've got a 2nd job in Carytown, but those are day hours). I'd like to live somewhere near/in Carytown/The Fan or between Short Pump and Carytown, if possible.

Thanks in advanced!

If you put up $500 a month, and you can find someone else to put that much up, you can find a decent apt/townhome on the West End.
