Politicians count heavily on the gullibility of voters and now more than ever, they're seldom disappointed. Today's extremists are satisfied with "I'm not the other guy" as a platform. It's a wrestling fan mentality and the pols are wetting their pants.

While purple states generally function the best as that's where there is accountability on all sides, extreme red states do seem to run better than extreme blue states. That's most likely due to their resulting smaller governments with less potential for corruption and squandered resources.

Around here we are trying to rub out our Purple, lol. We are currently making progress. Bigger government or not, our Red areas are well run. I do agree on your corruption and resources comment though.
