Downward slide from middle class to Medicaid?

My mom has math somewhat similar to the article in the original post. She has dementia. She's been in assisted living for almost 3 years. At ~6 1/2 years, she runs out of money at her current burn rate. She has about $46K in income so she'll be somewhat attractive to a nursing home when we eventually have to move her there assuming there's a year+ of private pay money before Medicaid gets involved.
