i rather liked the monza clones, the only issue i had with them was the rear suspension was not well set up and could be easily induced into severe over steer. i think the problem was that the panhard bar was not properly leveled when they built the car, or there was induced suspension binding. but i liked them a little better than the mustang ll styling wise, they were about equally comfortable to drive though. and the V6 had plenty of power for the little car.

I had the Monza, the one that came with a 305 and put a warmed over 350 in it. It was a blast to drive but the engine compartment was tight!

I do remember the Starfire and I often used to get those mixed up with the Chevy Monza's and the Buick Skyhawk's back in the day, I never really saw too many of the Starfire's around.

I did look at them when I got my first car, but ended up with an Olds Cutlass instead.
Those were beautiful cars. I remember them and hoped my folks would buy one. Instead , got another Chevy Impala.

I believe the original Oldsmobile Starfire dates all the way back to 1953 . . .

Spectacular automobiles in both appearance and performance.

I remember the REAL Starfire.

One of my teen buddies' sisters had a 1964 Starfire convertible. She foolishly let him take it for a buzz. It was a 394 with a 3.42 axle I believe.

He nailed it at about 20-30 and got rubber. I was impressed.

Just found this thread and since I LOVED my Starfire, I'd thought I'd pipe in. I had a 1975 with the Buick 231CI V6 under the hood. My car looked just like this one, but mine had black stripes on it and i put the louvers over the back hatch glass. I drilled out a cue ball and threaded it on to the stick shift, which made shifting really easy.

I ran that car daily from the Jersey shore to my job in Trenton and she was a wonderful commuter. Fun to drive around town as well. I kept it for over 100K miles (it had 30K when I bought it) until it jumped time and I couldn't lay it up long enough to work on it.

After driving a Mustang II for a couple of years, I found a nice 80 Monza to commute with. That car was fun as well.

Cool to see the tread about these cars.
