I appreciate your concern, but we are already roasting where we are. I understand that the job market is "dismal" but its not any better where we are and on top of that, it is way more expensive. If we ever want to buy a house in the south bay area we will have to win the lottery.
I have been checking the available jobs in our fields almost every week, and there are quite a few more in Reno than anywhere in our current area.
As far as being relocated, not going to happen for me. I work in the office of a small children's theme park, the only place I could ever transfer to would be our "sister" park up north, where it is even more expensive than where we are now.
My husband works in the security field so he shouldn't have too much of a hard time finding a job since there are so many casinos. I know, wishful thinking, but like I said before, I have found significantly more jobs available there than in our area.
Again, I do appreciate the information you have shared. You have more experience in Reno than i have ever had (we visited for 3 days in Jan of 2011) and I have no doubt that it is not great there, but I know it is better than where we are now. All we want is to live in a more affordable place, not too far from family in CA where is snows sometimes.

you can look at each individual casino for security and other jobs. BTW to get a job in a casino you will have to have a clean record and will have to get a sheriffs lic. Lot of jobs now are also pulling credit checks. if you have a Fico below 650 they will not hire you.

This just happened to a friend of mine who applied for a job and denied due to her credit. But I liked her response. If I had or job or if someone hired me I would be able to pay my bills on time.

We have excellent credit so im not worried about that at all, the sheriffs license however, we don't have, so that's good to know!
My husband does have a guard card, although it is for CA so he will have to get a NV guard card, which shouldn't be too much of a problem since he already has one.

Ya, I have seen a few of them on craigslist.org but there are quite a few different locations to choose from besides casinos. Either way, if we can manage to have the same income that we do now, when we move there, we will be living comfortably.

Also keep in mind its a right to work and right to live state.

I agre with the poster above you wages here are VERY LOW there are more min. wage jobs then good paying jobs. Its an employers market and they know people are desperate for a job and many will take anything esp. now that their benifits are runing out an Obama is not going to extend.

Right to Work has to do with Unions. Nevada is also an employment at will state.

The one advantage over California regarding wages is there is no state income tax, no state mandated disability or state mandated FMLA contribution.
