We are moving to Reno from Alabama this summer and are anticipating enjoying the area and the experience of a new area .The reason we are moving is to be close to our 4 children who live on the West Coast.
From what I read you are all making me doubt the decision we made after 2 years of research.
Please someone tell me something positive you are all making me depressed.

Not sure what you have read about Reno that is negative, it is a town like most others. The big difference is that it is close to some of the grandest landscapes on Earth.

What have you heard that's so negative? I like Reno and there is so much to see and do in the area. I would like living there.

My husband has been working out in Reno since Jan. 8 and our son and I will follow as soon as our house sells (since we just got 18 more inches of snow dumped on us, it will be awhile!), but we cannot wait to move out there! Don't be so easily led...everyone has her/his own opinion about areas...form your own!! It is beautiful there!!

I visited Reno once several years ago and I thought it was a great little town. Less casinos than Las Vegas. Great climate, and it snows in the winter. I like that.
It's a beautiful place. Don't let any others negativity get to you about that town. The people that are always negative, it's just the way they are, unhappy.

I know what you mean. There has been so many posts about Reno and Nevada in general that are very negative. Although not everyone that posts about Reno lives there some just passed by and formed huge opinions.
I too am moving there this summer and have been to Reno many times. It has it's good and bad parts like any other place.
There is so much to do, from going to concerts, outdoor activity and if you ever wanted to drive to the beach that's not far either.
The weather is really nice. Lots of sun! and not too much snow. I think the only downfall weather wise would be the wind on occasion, but no place is perfect.
I know it is a growing area and is really focusing on bringing in business which usually means it's a place that is trying to improve itself.
I hope that you will like it and take advantage of it's many benefits.

Thank you so much for making me feel more positive , we will be living in the North West near Robb Road exit ,I am not familiar with the area yet.
I think the Newcomers Group has a great web site ,there seems to be so much to do in the area.
A place is what you make of it ,I guess some people are hard to please.

You will be close to I80 and Truckee, Tahoe and the rest of the Sierra Nevada, great hiking, camping, boating, motorcycles etc. Just keep one thing in mind, if you are exceptionally fond of Gambling, get over it before you get here.

That is a pretty nice area. Where is the Newcomers Group site?
We looked at an apartment at one time up there and it was nice. There are also some great neighborhoods up there.
And the other nice part about Reno is that you are close enough to go to North or South Lake Tahoe for the day

I just put in a search for Newcomers Club Reno and their great site came up.
I thought it seemed like a great way to make some new friends.
