We live in Cold Springs and love Fiesta Mexicana on Stead blvd too! Bordertown cafe is ok to for a quick meal at a reasonable cost.

Steak: Cactus Creek (inside Bonanza Casino) wonderful food, great service..try their soup it's always great. They have the best steaks and prime rib in town.

Mexican: La Fuente Sparks. Excellent food, far closer to what you would find in a restaurant in Mexico than some of the other places mentioned.

Basque: Santa Fe Hotel great food, reasonably priced and served family style. I'm Basque so I am partial..I could eat their beans all day long and be happy.

Vietnamese: Pho 777 (downtown on E 2nd street) amazingly cheap, try their spring rolls!

Thai: There are a number of good Thai restaurants, but I'm partial to Thai Chili

Breakfast: Pam's is good but I also like Kimmie's

Buffet: probably the Atlantis, but neither my husband or myself ever eat enough to make eating at a Buffet worthwhile given the cost.

Based on this recommendation the wife, and I went here for lunch today and really weren't impressed. The atmosphere is good, meal was okay, but not stellar. I feel that Fiesta Mexicana is every bit as good, and cheaper. We've only been to Cabo San Lucas (7 times), so I'm not sure what you mean about being in Mexico. There's a place in Gardnerville (can't remember name, but Americana, and Mexican) that's pretty good, but compared to the bay area I'll have to say I'm still looking.
Something about tomato's in my Fajitas that doesn't set with me. We both felt more meat could have been provided, but it was cooked, and presented well. Maybe it's a Jalisco thing and I just don't know enough.
El Faro's in Daly City, and Pancho's in Cabo are places I'll always like.

sorry you didn't like La Fuente, we have always enjoyed it. It is Guadaljara, Jalisco, Puerto Vallarta style of Mexican food, but that is my favorite. I don't like "tex-mex" and I don't like the pinkish sauce that many mexican places cover all their food with.

Pho: I like that place on West(?) that's open until 2 or 3 am.

Indian: Taj Mahal on South Virginia. Best Indian food I've ever had.

Korean: Hana Garden on Greenbrae in Sparks. My veteran friend who spent two tours in Korea during Operation Enduring Freedom says it had the best Korean food he's had since leaving Korea. He's hard to please, and so am I.

Mexican: I like Los Garcias on North Carson in Carson City. Order their Tacos Bandera....best dish on the menu. Also this restaurant in Gardnerville on Hwy 395...cannot remember the name for the life of me.

Thai: The Basil in Carson City. Their curry and Mango rolls are to die for.

Buffet: El Dorado. Love their Sunday Champagne brunch, hand scooped Gelato and Tacos al Pastor. Great value for the price too.

Bakery: I know it's Gluten free, but I like Haven on Earth bakery in South Reno, off South Meadows. They also deliver and have really tasty lunches.

Betos Mexican Food on West 5th street is a little hole in the wall joint but it beats many of the other Mexican Places mentioned.

The Awful Awful at the little Nugget makes a In-n-Out double double look like a big Mac.

Breakfast - Heidi's. We have eaten at Heidi's in Reno, Lake Tahoe, and Carson City. They were all good.

Heidi's Family Restaurant

Buffet - John Ascuaga's Nugget in Sparks. Great food in a setting that is more like a restaurant than the typical buffet.

Rotisserie Buffet: John Ascuaga's Nugget Sparks Reno Nevada NV dining restaurants

We are fully comped VIP's at the Atlantis and they have a pretty good buffet which we get for free. However we always visit John Ascuaga's Nugget buffet at least once per stay even though we have to drive there and pay for it

Here are some of my favorites:

Hiroba Sushi - this was the first sushi place that I tried and found the chefs to be great and very willing to educate me.

Eldorado buffet - Not much into buffets BUT this place always has something that is very good.

Bavarian World - nothing earth shattering but quality German fare that you don't see very often.

Paul Schat's Bakery - Carson City - top of the line bakery.

The BEST thing that I have enjoyed in the Carson Valley was a Tri-Tip sandwich that I had prepared by one of teh volunteer fire departments down in the Minden-Gardnerville area. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it.
