Not any more.....In September 2007, Olivet President John C. Bowling prohibited Colling from teaching the general biology class he had taught since 1991, and by banning professors from assigning a book he wrote attempting to reconcile the foundations of modern evolutionary biology with the principles of modern Christian faith. The teaching of creationism has no place in a biology classroom

What a simplistic view of the world you have...For every thing and event....God did it....Have you no curiosity at all?

Evolution came from creation so they are both valid.

Not if one is professing to be any kind of scientist. There is evidence for evolution, there is no good evidence for creation - in the sense of being forward - planned by some intellect, let alone any kind of personal -made in our image God.

While there's certainly that possibility, Science class needs to stick solely to the facts and mechanics. If there was a seperate religion or philosophy class that attempted to interpret those facts in a particular light, I see no problem with that.

Agreed, SJ, but in fact that academic solution's been suggested many times. The rigorous fundamentalist Christians, bound and determined to get into the kids' heads as young as possible, also completely reject the dangerous role that instruction and practice in critical thinking would have.

incidentally, if one applies such Critical Thinking skills to the linked audio session, it's easy to detect the "Appeal to an Assumed Higher Intellect" scam. You know; where "lesser" scientists and thinkers just haven't yet connected all the relevant dots? As evidence of an Intelligent Designer, this presentation is simultaneously immature and vacuous.

Evolution has logically "created" order out of apparent chaos by a simple accumulated building block approach that is a natural outcome and byproduct of some basic biochemicals. That's all! It only requires the logic of DNA and intermolecular interaction. Those may be mostly inexplicable for now, but those who cherish Intelligent Design don't credit those factors; they say that God designed each and every individual organism, not the relatively simple process that led to those organisms' eventual arrival. In other words, the ID crowd doesn't understand the focal point at all. They have it entirely wrong!

So such teachers wish to subvert and inject illogical thinking and a rote-chant approach into those otherwise dangerous science classes.

(BTW, sans; thx for that quick bit of telling research. These days, with the internet, it's a lot harder for the fundies to get away with "sleight of mind"....

Well said!

There's a problem.

Here in Tennessee the various school boards have come up with a really creative way to promote Christianity and undermind evolution. They're supposedly teaching "The Bible As History" but in my view, "A Rose By Any Other Name Is Yet As Sweet" or "A Pile Of Dung Can Be Identified By It's Shape And Fragrance!"

All life is meant to progress, for this is the true creation in time – an evolving to a higher level of being. This truth is not always recognized, and in fact there are still adherents who believe in creation alone, whilst others believe in evolution alone. The recognition needs to dawn in minds everywhere that these go together, like hand in glove. Evolution is creation in time and space. In the same manner spirituality and science serve the same purpose. They are the discovery of the inner and the outer world.
