I took world religion in college and found it fascinating as well. I guess it is where your interests lie. To understand the world I think it is very important to understand other countries religious views. Not from a spiritual perspective but from an understanding perspective. Learning about other religions can help one clarify ones religious views.

Stephen Prothero, chairman of the religion department at Boston University, isn't laughing. Americans' deep ignorance of world religions — their own, their neighbors' or the combatants in Iraq, Darfur or Kashmir — is dangerous, he says.

His new book, Religious Literacy: What Every American Needs to Know — and Doesn't, argues that everyone needs to grasp Bible basics, as well as the core beliefs, stories, symbols and heroes of other faiths.

and sadly, not surprising. my neighbor was surprised to learn they practice Buddhism in Hawaii. He didnt realize it was a "real belief"" if Jesus wasnt in the book.
