Lately, I've been looking into affirmations. They work mostly when your inner critic doesn't take over. So, they work when they're believable to you - at least to an extent - and then you just make that belief stronger.

I want to apply this principle to strengthening my faith in God. Fowler might consider me at about faith-stage 5, though I find myself slipping into the skepticism of stage 4. Chart of James Fowler's Stages of Faith | psychologycharts.com Through much trial-&-error, I'm realizing that God (my idea of God who is pure LOVE) is the only source that can give me what I so crave - unconditional love and a sense of self-esteem and self-compassion.

Another important ingredient in effective affirmations is making it emotionally moving - which music can be. So, I'm thinking to combine affirmations with songs that move me.

Please add any songs and affirmations that could or have helped you.

Well, you said it here.
'Lord, you are my everything...you surround me and are in me and want
only the best for me.
I trust you and rely on you completely.
I adore You and only want to love You.''

(Hint to all that your heart desires: Love Him...forget about
you 'receiving' love....all else will come.) ❤️

And read Psalm 139 daily.
Remember this every day, because it is true:
Acknowledge him in all your ways...and He will make straight your path.

ALL music seems like Gospel music to me now. Here are a few of my favorites (shared previously with my friend Geekie)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AfsS3pIDBfw

If I could tell the world just one thing
It would be that we're all ok
And not to worry because worry is wasteful
And useless in times like these
I will not be made useless
I won't be idled with despair
I will gather myself around my faith
For light does the darkness most fear
My hands are small, I know,
But they're not yours they are my own
But they're not yours they are my own
And I am never broken
Poverty stole your golden shoes
But it didn't steal your laughter
And heartache came to visit me
But i knew it wasn't ever after
We will fight, not out of spite
For someone must stand up for what's right
Cause where there's a man who has no voice
There ours shall go singing
My hands are small, I know,
But they're not yours they are my own
But they're not yours they are my own
And I am never broken
In the end only kindness matters
In the end only kindness matters
I will get down on my knees and I will pray
I will get down on my knees and I will pray
I will get down on my knees and I will pray
My hands are small, I know,
But they're not yours they are my own
But they're not yours they are my own
And I am never broken
My hands are small, i know,
But they're not yours they are my own
But they're not yours they are my own
And I am never broken
We are never broken
We are God's eyes God's hands God's mind
We are God's eyes God's hands God's heart
We are God's eyes God's hands God's eyes God's hands
We are God's hands God's hands We are God's hands

On the turning away
From the pale and downtrodden
And the words they say
Which we won't understand
"Don't accept that what's happening
Is just a case of others' suffering
Or you'll find that you're joining in
The turning away"
It's a sin that somehow
Light is changing to shadow
And casting it's shroud
Over all we have known
Unaware how the ranks have grown
Driven on by a heart of stone
We could find that we're all alone
In the dream of the proud
On the wings of the night
As the daytime is stirring
Where the speechless unite
In a silent accord
Using words you will find are strange
And mesmerized as they light the flame
Feel the new wind of change
On the wings of the night
No more turning away
From the weak and the weary
No more turning away
From the coldness inside
Just a world that we all must share
It's not enough just to stand and stare
Is it only a dream that there'll be
No more turning away?

hope got my hands tied round my back
and time put a rope around my head
hung from the rafters of my fear
dark in the eyes

I try and face the world
I can't bear to
my knees hit the ground
and my hands start shaking
old feelings from
new faces
a rope on the floor
and a poor man hanging

please help me chop
this tree down
or hold me from underneath
words never once cut me down
oh don't you cry for me

I've seen an ocean run away
torn from the truth that holds my soul
down in the grave where I belong
oh what a ride

Identified my devil
wings to the sky on the run from trouble
with my own hands
no shovel
I dug through the ground
now I'm hanging above saying

please help me chop
this tree down
or hold me from underneath
words never once cut me down
oh don't you cry for me

down by the grave
that the law man laid
when the gravel got paved
finally I'm saved

when the sun went down
it set the sky on fire
I saw an angel fly
I never felt so high

please help me chop
this tree down
or hold me from underneath
words never once cut me down
oh don't you cry for me

Indian legislation on the desk of a do-right Congressman
Now, he don't know much about the issue
so he picks up the phone and he asks advice from the
Senator out in Indian country
A darling of the energy companies who are
ripping off what's left of the reservations. Huh.

1.
I learned a safety rule
I don't know who to thank
Don't stand between the reservation and the
corporate bank
They send in federal tanks
It isn't nice but it's reality

Bury my heart at Wounded Knee
Deep in the Earth
Cover me with pretty lies
bury my heart at Wounded Knee. Huh.

2.
They got these energy companies that want the land
and they've got churches by the dozen who want to
guide our hands
and sign Mother Earth over to pollution, war and
greed
Get rich... get rich quick.

Bury my heart at Wounded Knee
Deep in the Earth
Cover me with pretty lies
bury my heart at Wounded Knee. Huh.

3. We got the federal marshals
We got the covert spies
We got the liars by the fire
We got the FBIs
They lie in court and get nailed
and still Peltier goes off to jail

Bury my heart at Wounded Knee
Deep in the Earth
Cover me with pretty lies
bury my heart at Wounded Knee. Huh.

4.
My girlfriend Annie Mae talked about uranium
Her head was filled with bullets and her body dumped
The FBI cut off her hands and told us she'd died of
exposure
Loo loo loo loo loo

Bury my heart at Wounded Knee
Deep in the Earth
Cover me with pretty lies
bury my heart at Wounded Knee. Huh.

We had the Goldrush Wars
Aw, didn't we learn to crawl and still our history gets
written in a liar's scrawl
They tell ‘ya “Honey, you can still be an Indian
d-d-down at the ‘Y'
on Saturday nights”

Bury my heart at Wounded Knee
Deep in the Earth
Cover me with pretty lies
Bury my heart at Wounded Knee. Huh!

This one's for Raf.

And anyone else who appreciates a wonderful song, wonderfully-sung. One of Leonard's finest, sung by an angel.

Whaaatttt??? I just heard this song and thought of this thread only to find Trout posting.

Listen baby, ain't no mountain high,
Ain't no valley low, ain't no river wide enough baby
If you need me call me no matter where you are
No matter how far; don't worry baby
Just call my name; I'll be there in a hurry
You don't have to worry
Oh baby there ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe
Remember the day I set you free
I told you you could always count on me darling
From that day on, I made a vow
I'll be there when you want me
Some way, some how
Oh baby there ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe
Oh no darling
No wind, no rain
Or winters cold can stop me baby, na na baby
'Cause you are my goal
If you're ever in trouble
I'll be there on the double
Just send for me, oh baby, ha
My love is alive
Way down in my heart
Although we are miles apart
If you ever need a helping hand
I'll be there on the double
Just as fast as I can
Don't you know that there
Ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe
Don'tcha know that there
Ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
Ain't mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
