Well, I don't know why you'd want to know as the information is meaningless vis a vis the house you buy, but......
In my community, if you want to know the total assessed value of all property in the town, we read the annual tax report. Assessed values are broken out by residential, commercial and farm for the taxable year forward in one column with the year to year change and percentages in the following two columns.
Where can I view property value histories by town/zip code I'm eventually considering buying a house and i'm curious about various areas past performance.
I'm looking for the performance histories of communities, not of individual houses.
Go to https://www.city-data.com/ On that page you can enter the zip code in the search window if you know it or...if you don't know the zip code:
Go to the State on that page, and then the city you are looking for.
The colored land map below that will also allow you to select Median House or Condo Value and view how property values differ in the area.
Yes, I saw those kinds of maps.
Those are just home sales and oftentimes don't paint the full picture. For example, if they open a trailer park in an upscale town then the home values will be skewed; just like if they were to build a open a new upscale subdivision in a working class town.
I found the ones on Zillow which was exactly what I was looking for. For those that are wondering, I was just looking to compare how the property values of upper middle class towns are performing in the recession, compared to lower income towns.
Thank you everybody.
