He attended UNC from 2005-2009, the university confirms. He earned a BA in Public Policy and Anthropology.

Sad to say, but that is probably the best thing that could happen to him (and his family). Burns are very painful to recover from and can take a long time. Lots of pain and suffering.

He was never going to survive that but I don't think it was the quick end he thought it would be, and very painful. Video showed him trying to put out the remaining flames after the cops got the extinguishers on him.

Feel bad for anyone that had to witness that in person.

The sad truth is that what he did and why he did it are already forgotten by everyone except his family and friends.

The country is inured to seeing devastating events on social media and streaming news services.

Self-immolation has a long tradition as a protest method.

However, it now has to compete with on-air beheadings, screaming hostages, gleeful looters, and hateful protesters.

And yet, no one really changes personal opinions based on these shameful events.

What or where he went to school doesn't matter, he had mental health issues. Remember the Unabomber? Smart guy too but clearly had issues.

By dying he really saved himself years of pain and suffering.
