We are considering a move from San Diego to either Cary or Apex and planning a visit early next year to look around
Our youngest daughter (3) was recently diagnosed with WSS (Weidermann Steinway syndrome) which will be a lifelong issue with her with physical and intellectual issues.
Are there good children's hospital and specialist doctors in the Cary/Apex neighborhood? It's obviously going to paly a major factor in where we move to as well as good schools for our son who is 10
Your dominant healthcare providers in the area are UNC Medical, Duke Medical, and WakeMed.
Satellite complexes for those three are continuously being built.
I would suggest you start top down and look for specialists affiliated with those hospital systems.
+1 more for what Mike J said. Duke, UNC and Wake-Med are good. Duke and UNC are the better bets for specialists, as both are aligned to universities and both are world-class hospitals. UNC is bigger, Duke is smaller but more prestigious (opinion). Both have pros and cons, but are arguably among "as good as you'll get" in the USA.
My daughter has life-long medical issues, we drove from Sanford to Duke for 18+ years (she's an adult now, and moved to another area). Definitely convenient enough for that cause. For instance, if you lived in Charlotte, these would still be your best option, but 2.5-3 hours away.
I think Apex to Duke is probably <30 minutes, maybe more in Rush hour.
