At the intersection right before I-40 and I-85 merge (or split, depending on your perspective)? Yeah, that should do pretty well, especially considering how relatively barren the offerings are for about 10 miles eastward on both highways except for Hillsborough on I-85. This definitely will be a game changer for Efland if it happens.
I found one when I was driving between Houston and Galveston in 2015. (Pulled off to get a drink.) Hadn't heard of them before then.
The "Wegmans of convenience stores" is what I was calling it in the office when this site first came to us a while ago. (I was surprised when they mentioned the name; didn't know at the time they were venturing outside of Texas.) The store is huge, and reminds me a bit of the old Stuckey's that we had (still in SC?) but nothing that I was really interested in other than a Diet Mountain Dew and disposing of the previous DMD.
But yes, the bathrooms are very clean.
It's going to suck the life out of any non-Sheetz along 40-85 in the general area of Efland. And Sheetz will be hurt a bit too. (Love's caters more to the truckers, so they'll be fine.)
Buc-ee’s is the real deal. It will be a game changer for Efland and a great “Welcome to the Triangle” from points west. If only they would build an amusement park or water park out that way...
Thanks for providing that link. I'm intrigued by this section:
"A second phase in 2023 could add a 120-room hotel, 8,000 square feet of medical office space, 30,000 square feet of specialty retail space, a 3,500 square foot bank, and 32,000 square feet of casual and sit-down restaurant space. Another 150,000 square feet could provide space for offices and manufacturing companies.
"The retail portion is not expected to include larger stores, such as a grocery, the traffic report states. The application notes that roughly 30% of the land would be preserved as open space, and buildings could be up to 60 feet tall. County staff has asked that all buildings be at least 100 feet from neighboring properties and streets.
"Still unsettled is whether there will be land for future transit facilities, such as a bus shelter or park and ride lot, and whether the city of Mebane can meet the project’s sewer needs."
Regarding the latter, I'm sure Orange County commissioners will require the transit facilities as part of the agreement to discourage sprawl. It's going to be interesting how this fits into the county's rural buffer strategy, since this likely will transform Efland into a growing area.
Yeah, this definitely is going to be a huge game changer, and if it's as successful as I expect will be, representatives from more counties around here will clamor to have a Buc-ee's off one of their interchanges too.
