Of the more than 1 million square feet of retail, office and multi-family residence space, Goodwin reports that more than 65% is leased for the retail square footage in this first phase.
“I have a regret that we did not consider what the viewshed was going to look like from these buildings, especially when you get into these 12-story buildings which we didn’t anticipate. A roof-top of a grocery store is one of the most ugly sights there is,” said councilwoman Robinson.
Presser mentions "66-foot-wide screen (one of the largest in NC)."
Marbles' IMAX is a bit bigger at 70' wide, but doesn't show that many Hollywood movies. There are other "digital IMAX"es in the area, but those could be 48' wide.
If SFspiderman is getting concerned.... then we should be concerned. He/She seems to be "in the know" about these type things.... almost suspiciously so.... right "mayor" (lol).
It has been what.... 3-5yrs since the Fenton Wegmans was announced. It WAS the first one to be announced in the state. A BIG deal... to be a local-regional draw......"they said". Now what.... nothing... and there are other Wegmans popping up all over the Triangle. Wendell will probably have one announced and built before the Fenton..... if, like SFspiderman alludes too, it ever happens.
What is with all the "head-fakes" in that area (Cary's proposed Eastern Gateway). Ikea... nope..... Carolina Yards mixed use dev.... nope..... Epic world HQ...?????... we'll see. Can't all be blamed on the pandemic... Ikea backed out well before that. DT Cary seems to be still coming along nicely (especially given the pandemic) and development around Rex-NCMA on the other side of 40 is starting to happen. The Eastern Gateway is sanwhiched in-between....with interstate access to-boot. What gives?

Losing the Carolina Yards upscale residential units to a corporate campus may well be a significant negative to Wegman's.
The insular nature of Fenton development design, and questionable ease of access to the grocery location may be a consideration. Residents in the area already have easy access to a shiny new and visible Harris Teeter.
Top Golf and Ikea were bad jokes in that location, from a perspective of highest and best use of the mall property. We dodged two bullets there.
Carolina Yards, despite the horrid name and faux-modern design, was a higher use. Epic Games is a regression in use, unless the campus includes a mixed-use component. Still, Epic won't be as bad as Top Golf or Ikea would have been.
All that said, if Wegman's is re-thinking involvement and drops out for real, it will ding The Fenton, I believe.
