Looks they want year-round schools to start Aug 3. I'm not entirely sure how that all will work, they haven't talked about it yet at the work session.

I know this calendar discussion has to be part of their process for budget, etc.. but it all seems kinda silly to me. Nobody even knows what we are going to be "allowed" to do next week much less 3 months from now.

YR usually starts in July and they've had no guidance on the hows and whys of that happening. So they are delaying the start. Also, the guy who is in charge of calendars skated right up to the issue of the schools possibly closing due to the 'Rona during the school year, but never really came right out and said it. But, we all know the calendar changes are partially related to what might happen. At any rate, starting in July isn't feasible, so they needed to address it. You can't just start up a district of 160K kids at the last minute.

Some possible challenges and strategies to consider. Expecting school to reopen like normal next year? Don’t.

My kids had a dentist appointment today- their first real outing since schools were shut down in March. Although I felt comfortable with the precautions that the dentist office was taking, I was horrified at how much face touching my kids did, despite extensive discussions about the importance of keeping hands away from their face! My kids are not young either- 10 and 14.

I had reservations about the safety of school starting in August- but our real life experience today only amplified my concerns. I really don’t know how this is going to work. There seem to be no good options. They are all awful.
