Not exactly. United made its own decision to cancel flights. The U.S. government hasn't yet required airlines to do that, but frankly they won't have to. Most of the revenue on trans-Pacific flights comes from the business class cabin. That traffic is drying up quickly because international road warriors (I used to be one) won't risk catching the virus. United isn't the only airline that has begun to cut back.
The U.S. government has warned people not to go, and of course that further scares business away from the airlines.
Now if freight transportation out of Shanghai, Zhengzhou, and Shenzhen is disrupted, we will feel the effects for sure. Quickly.
White House has told airlines it may stop flights completely.
The number of sick doesn't yet concern me but it sounds like someone in our government is starting to panic a bit. I read something today that even the survivors of the virus have permanent damage to their lungs. It's also apparently infected more in China than SARS.
I also heard that AA might stop flights "next month", which while not that far off, seems like the horse will have left the barn by then.
What will be interesting is if the government does in fact step in, that would be the stuff of movies, for now it appears more of a business-level decision.
Edit: Just turned on Netflix to find Pandemic, a series, at the top of the New Release list.

There’s a whole thread in the prepper forum for those looking for the very best in canned goods.
I had never noticed this forum had a prepper board...I think I'm truly frightened to venture in there, lol.
