We go to Eye Care Associates in the Brier Creek area, and their charges were very expensive to what other optometrists charged! They seem to have a huge practice, the optometrists seem rushed, have evening hours and give free bottled water (with their own labeling) in the waiting room. But who cares about that?

Anyone have any recommendations on a "old-school" optometrist in the west Cary area?

Also, I need a primary care physician -I guess it can be a Family doc or Internist. I searched through old threads and found the following recs:

-Generations Family Practice on 110 Preston Executive Dr
-Internal Medicine & Pediatric Associates on 224 High House Rd
-MacGregor Family Physicians on 580 New Waverly Place, Suite 120
-Dr. Sachin Gupta who works with Dr. Christine O'Meara somewhere on Green Level Church?

We will be living near Green Level Church Rd near the new Parkside Town Commons -any of your guys thoughts or recs will be helpful to the above list or any other ones?

not in West Cary or Brier Creek but I go to Stonehenge Vision Source off Creedmoor Road in North Raleigh - very reasonable prices and excellent service from the people who worked there and Dr. Oberdorf

Optometrist: Dr Mauro who has an office at the Durham Costco. You do not need to be a Costco member to benefit from her outstanding services and reasonable prices. Please search this forum for MANY recommendations for her.

As far as primary care physicians, I'd suggest looking at Duke Primary Care at Brier Creek. Or any branch of Duke Primary Care that is convenient.

For what it's worth, I think the service you get at EyeCare Associates is heavily dependent on which location you go to. I've gone to N. Raleigh and Chapel Hill and never felt like my doctor was rushing me through. Chapel Hill, especially, is a smaller office and I always felt like I've gotten the right amount of attention. However, I went to Brier Creek a few weeks ago for something relatively minor (figuring out how expensive a new pair of lenses would be for my frames) and I indeed felt rushed and like the associate I was working with had other/better things to do. It could be a product of being in a major shopping center like Brier Creek, who knows. All the same though, best of luck finding a new provider!

I went to EyeCare Associates in Raleigh for many years, but once I was considered an established patient my annual eye exams started lasting all of ten minutes and felt very rushed so I quit going there. In my own experience I've found the best service comes from the smaller practices who aren't as busy and can spend appropriate time with each patient while providing excellent care. Having said that, routine eye exams typically cost well over $100 at most places these days...and some run extra vision tests or take diagnostic imaging photos that are not covered by insurance.

Which is yet another reason we use Dr Mauro (who was also recommended by my husband's retinal specialist at Duke!)

If your looking for a cheap,no frills eye doctor. Try America's Best, they have locations in Raleigh and Durham. Maybe Cary? The price difference was worth the drive for me. I also second Costco . I have never been myself but have heard nothing but good about their eye services. And like mentioned earlier you do not have to be a member. Sam's club has the same policy as well.

You can also save money by not using the optician services associated with your optometrist. Have the optometrist give you a written prescription including pupil distance measurements, and then shop online for your lenses and frames.

Buying online can get a bit tricky for people who have unique vision correction requirements and increases the risk of receiving incorrectly cut lenses. I'd rather pay a bit more to my local optometrist to ensure the correct measurements and adjustments have been made plus knowing they will take care of any problems.
