Wxrisk.com is showing the possibility of a heavy ice storm over central NC from about 11pm Monday evening. The models show the possibility of snow starting around 7pm, shifting to ice around 11 and continuing overnight to approx 7am Tuesday morning for Raleigh. Earlier today he called for about 5 inches of snow, but models are now leaning toward ice. 8 hours of ice would certainly be interesting.

The northward trends of the models over the last 18 hours have been ridiculous. I've never seen such dramatic shifts with every model run so very close to the event. Very frustrating. If the north trend continues we'll be lucky to even get any IP/ZR. Right now RDU maybe 2" SN and the rest IP/ZR. It would be a lot of ice. But that's as of right now. It's been changing every run....no telling what tomorrow will bring.

Oof, that what Greg Fishel and the others are saying now - not good. Hope it turns a bit south again. Roxboro to get all snow, as always!

What is IP/ZR? Google didn't turn up an obvious answer.

Guy on the weather channel said he expects models to keep trending northward. Let's hope he is right. We could be out of school a week with this current forecast and that makes me

My guess is that IP is icy precipitation. I have no guess for the 'Z', though.

ETA: Just looked it up - ZR is the weather symbol for freezing rain. And IP is Ice Pellets or sleet, not Icy Precipitation - I was close.

This one is starting to look like a mixed bag of inconvenience. I think I'll wait until the noon news tomorrow before I start making any bets

Me too. Sadly, I work from home, and that will not happen. Still wish for it
