2 hours is going to accomplish nothing....the difference between 22* and 24* is negligible. If the roads freeze, they will stay frozen.

We had thunder and lightening tonight so maybe in the next ten days we'll get some real snow???

Can you give even one example -- ever in the history of the county -- of a Wake County child's life that was ended by an accident involving a school bus in a few inches of snow?

WCPSS has to make decisions based on the ENTIRE county. With the lives of children at stake, they can't afford to take a chance with bus transportation not being safe.

WCPSS offers a subscription service to alert parents to adverse weather closings. Between that and paying attention to the media, you SHOULD be able to stay informed. Experience should have also taught you that you need to stay alert and informed when there is potential for inclement weather.

A previous poster mentioned that parents' overreaction causes problems. I've seen this happen in other types of weather too. During one especially bad rainstorm, parents flooded the lobby of our building. I was trapped inside with my bus riders and the buses left before these students could get out of the building. Several of these students were bused to school a great distance and I had to contact their parents (who spoke another language), explain what happened, and wait with their children until they could get to school to pick them up.

Try to work WITH us. BTW, instruction will continue on 2 hour delay days. Please don't keep your child home.
I agree! Just because the streets in MY neighborhood are clear and buses can get in and out doesn't mean the neighborhoods five miles away are the same. Better to be safe than sorry!

Vicki

A 2 hr delay for 1 inch of snow? Kids in VT would love that.

I just left work at 9:10 and drove home (15 minute trip)

Most disappointing inclement weather EVER!

But I'm still in support of a two hour delay. It can't HURT anything to be cautious.

Looks like it's a done deal now and what little snow there was is gone. I think I might have gotten three flakes?

I don't know how to quote text, but this is in reference to Hamish Forbes' reply.

No, I don't know of an incident in which a child's life ended because of a bus accident. And for that...I am eternally grateful.

It doesn't mean, however, that it shouldn't be considered. Student safety has to be a top priority.
