Wow, that's almost 2 years away! It's only a mile closer for me but I prefer that side of town to the Raleigh location. Then I can go to the Whole Foods in Cary instead of the one in Raleigh where no one ever smiles.
I just recently found my Price Club card...from like 30 years ago. Wow. Can't wait until this is finished...we call it the Two hundred dollar store...by then it may be the Three hundred dollar store!
I grew up in Atlanta and lived near the first Home Depot. I remember moving here and thinking, it would be nice if we had a Home Depot in the area. I was in Cary when Hechingers went in at Crossroads, which went out of business when the HD and Lowes moved in.

I forgot that store existed!

Oh yeah, I remember Hechinger's! They were a DC-area chain.
I too remember Hechinger's. My mom recently found a few things she purchased from them in an old closet (had the price tags on it). The one in Fairfax City was a Bradlee's first I think and then Hechinger's and now home depot. Bradlee's was the BOMB! My mom still calls Costco, "Price Club"
Definitely remember Hechingers also. I think they went out of business nationwide, not specifically due to Lowes and HD here, but more everywhere. Also, another blast from the past is Builders Square. Used to be over off of Six Forks where Kroger is now near the intersection with Wake Forest, IIRC
So, it seems that one company actually bought both of them and tried to merge them but failed. Both in 1999. This was not too long after Home Depot started their major expansion I think and Lowes also got larger, both in nationwide footprint and their store sizing.
Yes, Home Quarters was another chain that eventually got caught up in implosion of Hechinger and Builders Square. At least two stores in the Triangle were briefly branded HQ.

Wow ... Bradlees ... haven't thought of that place in YEARS! I loved going there! I used to go to the one in Annandale on 236. I think it also went the Bradlees to Hechinger's to Home Depot route.
