Just because Independence Day is over does not mean the Triangle is going to stop celebrating this weekend. Among the interesting activities planned are the following:
Festivals
The newest attraction at the American Dance Festival (
American Dance Festival | ADF News) in Durham this weekend will be the Argentine Festival of the event. Friday and Saturday at the Reynolds Industry Theatre (
Theater Studies > Student Plays), the featured South American performers will be Krapp (you read right) at 7:30 p.m. followed by Compania Contenido Bruto at 9:30 p.m. From Sunday through Tuesday at the same location, the ADF presents Gabriela Prado & Eugenia Estévez at 7:30 p.m. and Edgardo Mercado & Susana Tambutti at 9:30 p.m. All but the last group have nudity as part of their performance (stop giggling), and several of the works will be making their U.S. premieres. Pretty impressive, eh? Check the ADF Web site or call the box office at 919-684-4444 to purchase tickets and learn more about each program.
Music
Wynonna (
Wynonna Judd - Official Site) joins the North Carolina Symphony (
North Carolina Symphony - North Carolina Symphony, Classical, Pops, Concerts, Tickets, Meymandi, Raleigh, Artist, Musicians, Instruments, Education, Music, Culture, Advertisment, Gerhardt Zimmermann, William Curry, Orchestra, Mozart, performing arts,) at the Koka Booth Amphitheatre (
Koka Booth Amphitheatre at Regency Park, An SMG Managed Venue) Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at 8003 Regency Parkway in Cary. Now, this should be interesting – has anyone ever wondered how “Mama, She’s Crazy” and other country hits by the daughter half of the Judds would sound if performed by an orchestra? We sure have not, but we bet the symphony will be up to the challenge. Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the gate. Call 919-462-2052 for directions, tickets and other info.
Movies
For a fun way to enjoy a movie, the Saturday Movies at Moore Square (
Historic Neighborhoods of Raleigh) series in Raleigh offers you the chance to see a film outdoors for free in a scenic setting. This Saturday at 8:30 p.m. (or a little bit later, depending on when it finally gets dark), the featured attraction is Moulin Rouge (::: Moulin Rouge Movie ::: (broken link)). Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and coolers (sorry, no alcohol allowed). There are plenty of shops and restaurants nearby to purchase food and drink before the show if you want to do so. We would also recommend you wear insect repellant just to be safe – it is going to still be hot and humid around here by that time of night.
The Lumina Theatre (
The Lumina Theatre) in Southern Village (
Southern Village) in Chapel Hill offers a similar outdoor treat on its village green Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m., although you have to pay $3 to watch it. The film will be Spiderman 3 (
Spider-Man 3 Official Site), where Peter Parker’s alter ego fights three foes this time, appropriately enough. No pets allowed, no glass containers, and children 16 years old or under must be accompanied by an adult – otherwise, feel free to make yourself comfortable there.
Whatever you ending up doing, have a great weekend!
