My family of 3 is looking to move to Oregon in the very near future and would like some feedback regarding good neighborhoods to live (we have a 9 year old son who will most definitely require being somewhat close to a skatepark if possible) I home school him so I am not really concerned with the school situations. But would like to be in an area where he will be able have some friends in the neighborhood. My husband is an ironworker so we are still in the process of finding work for him there (which is our only hold up right now) just basically seeking direction on where would be some good spots/neighborhoods we can check out when we come up next week.

There are lots of skateparks here. Here's a list I'm on the west side and both my kids and husband skate. They like the Beaverton skate park a lot. It's part of the parks and rec dept. and they offer skate clinics for kids in summer. The Reedville skatepark in Hillsboro is good, but usually pretty crowded. West Linn also has a large skatepark. All three of those are suburbs and have family-friendly neighborhoods, but if your husband finds work downtown or on the east side, the commute is long.

Maybe someone else can chime on the east side skateparks and neighborhoods. No matter where you end up in Portland, the skatepark in Newburg is worth driving out to- even just to watch the skaters. It's amazing.

Finding work may be more of a holdup than you realize. A neighborhood depends on your income among other factors. Socioeconomic class still has a bearing on where someone lives.

Ironworker jobs in Portland... Um, yeah, maybe try Seattle, near the shipyards? There is a submarine repair place there that probably uses iron workers.

Not saying that there are zero jobs for iron workers in Portland, but I suspect that the skate board park isn't going to end up being your biggest problem,.
