Navy SEAL Museum to Host Indian River Woodcarvers’ Purple Heart Cane Ceremony Saturday 11:00 am Navy UDT-SEAL Museum, 3300 N Hwy A1A, Fort Pierce, FL, The Navy SEAL Museum will host the Eighth Annual Purple Heart Cane Ceremony on January 18. The ceremony, which honors Purple Heart Medal recipients from every branch of military, was started by the Indian River Woodcarvers Club almost a decade ago. The Purple Heart Cane Ceremony recognizes its namesake veterans through the donation of hand-carved, custom wooden canes to those who have earned the Purple Heart Medal as a result of wounds suffered in combat. Every intricately carved cane is fashioned with the head of a bald eagle; each displays the history of the individual veteran’s service to his or her country, including service branch details, awards earned, and dates of enlistment and discharge. With increasing interest among candidates and growing support annually, the Purple Heart Cane Project continues to evolve. 2020 marks the eighth consecutive year that canes will be distributed to Purple Heart veterans. More than 45 veterans are slated to be honored this year; to date, more than 300 custom canes have been donated since the project’s inception. The ceremony will be held outdoors at the Museum’s Memorial Wall beginning at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 18. Following opening remarks from Woodcarvers Club President Craig Holterman and Museum Executive Director Rick Kaiser, Congressman Brian Mast will serve as keynote speaker. Tony-award winner "The Humans" Friday through Sunday : Treasure Coast Theatre, 10175 S US HIGHWAY 1, PORT ST. LUCIE, FL Price: $25 Treasure Coast Theatre -- the only community theatre in Port St Lucie -- presents this award-winning comedy-drama that follows the Blake family as they celebrate Thanksgiving at the Manhattan apartment of the younger daughter. The Holiday gathering soon devolves into discussions of illnesses, religion, career struggles, changing relationships and other issues that affect so many families. As the dinner stretches into the evening, eerie things start to occur. This production contains some mature language. Critics described this play as a blisteringly funny, bruisingly sad and altogether wonderful play that depicts the way we live now... kind, warm, beautifully observed and deeply moving, a celebration of the imperfections and affections of working-class families...and an absolute triumph." "The Humans" was nominated for six Tony awards in 2016, winning four, including for Best Play. The Humans also won four Drama Desk Awards, a Drama League Award, an Outer Critics Circle Award, a New York Critics Circle Award, and it was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. Ladies, it's time to start thinking of who you want to ask to the Sailfish Sadie Hawkins Dance for Valentine's Day!
The Sadie Hawkins Dance is named after the Li'l Abner comic strip character Sadie Hawkins, created by cartoonist Al Capp back in 1937. In the strip, Sadie Hawkins Day was a day of celebration when the unmarried women of Dogpatch (the town they lived in) got to chase their bachelors and "marry up" with the ones that they caught. Of course, we'll have a "Marriage Booth" at the dance where you can get hitched for just for the night. Line dancing with Wild Roses starts at 8:00 PM. Don't worry, this is a great class for all levels of line dancing - if you've never danced before, this is your chance! All styles of music. Traditionally couples wear matching shirts to this dance, and we sure hope you do, too.

2020 Port St. Lucie Citizen Summit
Quote:
The City of Port St. Lucie invites residents and community members to focus on the future at the 2020 Citizen Summit on February 29, 2020, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and share their ideas to shape our community. The 2020 Citizen Summit allows citizens to play a key role in identifying, discussing, and prioritizing Port St. Lucie’s future strategic goals. The event will be held at PSL’s Community Center at 2195 SE Airoso Blvd, Port St. Lucie, FL 34984.

This is not your ordinary public meeting, citizens can drop in anytime and walk through interactive booths to find out what is planned for their community and learn how they can get involved. Those who provide feedback will receive a T-shirt, a pair of sunglasses, and other giveaways, while supplies last.

This free, interactive event allows citizens to give direct feedback about the City’s future through games and one-on-one conversations. Attendees will be given a roadmap to the seven stations that correspond to the City’s seven strategic goals. Every participant will be given $100 in play money to identify and prioritize where their taxpayer dollars should be spent. This allows the City Council to see residents’ priorities when forming this year’s strategic plan update.

“PSL’s Future in Focus” is this year’s theme, and the public can help define a vision and outline how City employees and City Council can bring that vision for the future to life. So, tell us what is important to you!

Lots of event cancellations this weekend. Therefore it looks to be a relaxing weekend. Good time to spend some quality time at the beach under the sun.

1. If you have a runny nose and sputum, you have a common cold.
2. Coronavirus pneumonia is a dry cough with no runny nose.
3. This new virus is not heat-resistant and will be killed by a temperature of just 26/27 degrees C. (About 77 degrees F.) It hates the Sun.
4. If someone sneezes with it, it goes about 10 feet before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne.
5. If it drops on a metal surface it will live for at least 12 hours - so if you come into contact with any metal surface, wash your hands as soon as you can with a bacterial soap.
6. On fabric it can survive for 6-12 hours. normal laundry detergent will kill it.
7. Take a few sips of water every 15 minutes at least. Why? Even if the virus gets into your mouth, drinking water or other liquids will wash them down through your throat and into the stomach. Once there, your stomach acid will kill all the virus. If you don't drink enough water regularly, the virus can enter your windpipe and then the lungs.
