Martin County investing $1.4 million to create technical learning center at Witham Field
A county building at Witham Field airport could undergo a $1.4 million renovation and be transformed into a learning center for trade skills. The facility would be known as the REACH center — which stands for Reimagining Education And Career Help — and offer classes focused on the industrial sector.
Skills and certifications offered through the center could, for example, help fill jobs in the aviation and marine industries
At least 51% of students at the center would have to be of low and moderate income, and the grant must be used by “providing housing, a permanent job, a public service or access to new or significantly new infrastructure” for low- and moderate-income people, according to federal regulations.
The grant also must be used to address COVID-19 impacts, which would include loss of jobs in the retail and service industries
