It seems like reviews of the vehicle are generally all quite good, so it’s odd to me the top topic for the Taycan is calling it a dud. It’s very expensive, but it’s also not like people purchasing a Porsche are looking for vehicles that are the most economical way to get from point A to point B. Its EPA range isn’t the highest, but it’s still plenty good for most uses for a performance sports sedan and the amount of raw power it has—plus, the range is very, very well within how much people drive on a daily basis and various reviews of these being taken for an actual daily use point to the range rating being pretty conservative in a lot cases. The interior and exterior to me are both quite nice.

All in all, a solid car it seems. Its price for the bottom trim level is about the same as the Tesla Model S top trim level and in a lot of ways they seem competitive with different trade-offs for one or the other.

I am not surprised it is a solid car. Porsche is known for understating their cars' true potential. Porsche estimated 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds a few years ago but most auto enthusiasts knew it would be much, much faster as a production vehicle. Only the Tesla army took the bait . Even Porsche's official EPA range is quite conservative.

This is apparently working out pretty alright for Porsche as the Taycan is the third best-selling Porsche in the US after its two much cheaper SUV/CUVs and is the best-selling of its non-SUVs/CUVs: https://jalopnik.com/the-porsche-tay...les-1845599107

Drove one yesterday on a racetrack as part of Porsche's Taycan Tour. Today is their last event of the 2020 season.

Nice car, stupid fast but it is a sled (5100 lbs). Two things that shocked me, Porsche says the Taycan can be operated in FWD mode (saving battery, longer range) and it has a lower center of gravity than a GT3.

I'd never buy one for that kind of money, I'd buy a 911 and then use the leftover money for a commuter car and a well funded GAS CARD for both of them.

This is what the day looked like:

Fast, instant throttle is awesome, but quiet even when you turn on “sound enhancements” I hated that part, was happy to go park the Turbo S I was driving. My brothers a cop and had trouble moving a crashed tesla off the road due to it’s weight.

The corporate sponsored free track day I got to go to a few years ago, it was fun!

I originally considered Taycan a dud mainly due to its inefficiency compared to Tesla but it is otherwise so brilliant that I've retracted that earlier assessment. So I'd hate to travel to a distant location in it but for shorter trips around where I lived, it would be awesome.

The upcoming Lucid may be a far better overall car but it will not be able to match the Porsche mystique.

Figured another Taycan topic would be too many, so adding to this one instead.

Porsche has a US release price for the base version of the Taycan at $79,900. The difference between these two new trims is that these vehicles are single-motor RWD rather than dual-motor AWD.

There's also a bit of talk about potentially revised EPA range ratings for the lineup.

I still wouldn't buy one for 80K but they did need to make it more affordable due to the Tesla pricing

Where it gets interesting is the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S (about $150k and $185k respectively).
