News: Professor in Chief - Inside Higher Ed

Quote:
Ogletree, founding and executive director of the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race and Justice, says he sees the “professor” label as a thinly veiled attack on Obama’s race.
Two points are earned here for the most creative use of the race card this week.

"If the term professor is used in politics, it's seldom a compliment, and instead "implies dry, hectoring, unemotional, self important, all of the negative stereotypes of somebody who is vainly certain of his own superior mental capacities but doesn’t have a human connection,” says Nunberg....."

Quite a good decription of Obama's presentation of himself to the public, IMO.

Just in your eyes, darling. Dry, hectoring, unemotional, self important, all are subjective considerations.
I find a human connection with Obama often, considering that I have never met the man.
Did not get much of that with the last president, his frequent winks did not do it for me.

Vainly certain of his own superior capacities?
Hmm, I don't know about "vainly", nothing indicates this alleged vanity to me.
Certain of his own superior capacities? He better be, he is the US president.
We had enough of the last president relying on the vice-president to do his thinking.

President Obama is a strong man. He is getting darts, racist slurs, and all types of angst directed toward him.

His courage and determination is beyond reproach... which I suspect is the reason some who feel threatened by his education. charm. charisma, political expertise and determination constantly feel the need to attack him.

He has risen above the hate and bs and is still focused on the issue at hand.. reconstruction of this nation of ours.

As a black man I'm sure he's used to insults and racism and I applaud him for handling the situation with dignity and class.

Harvard Professor: Referring to Obama as 'professor' is racist

ZGACK, why would anyone need to refer to the US president as 'professor'? Professor was a position Obama held, now he is the US president. Are you aware of any other US president being addressed as 'professor'? No? Then it is racist.

wait, I'm confused. Obama is a harvard grad himself.

The Harvard Law Review, generally considered the most prestigious in the country, elected the first black president in its 104-year history today. The job is considered the highest student position at Harvard Law School. The new president of the Review is Barack Obama, a 28-year-old graduate of Columbia University who spent four years heading a community development program for poor blacks on Chicago's South Side before enrolling in law school.
