Ms. Omega, 48, is one of the beneficiaries of the foreclosure crisis. Through a small advocacy group of local volunteers called Take Back the Land, she moved from a friend’s couch into a newly empty house that sold just a few years ago for more than $400,000.

I think we should tear down foreclosed homes.....preferably with the squatters still in them.

The taxpayers now own those 'toxic' houses.

anyone who gets forclosed on should never again be able to purchase a house unless they have the cash up front.

Who is to stop them ? The banks ? Please..BofA is not going to check all their foreclosed homes on the books. They are probably greatful that someone is living in the home taking care of it.

Do you know how many foreclosed and uncared for homes owned by the banks up north had pipes burst because they didn't winterize them ? How many foreclosed homes in the south owned by banks have 5 foot weeds in the front yard.

The banks don't want the "homes", they just want the loan on the home.

That's pretty harsh. Some people are going through hard times. To deny them future credit because of this is a bit too much.

Not to mention that every time someone checks your credit score, you lose a point. I know people that have not gotten jobs because of their credit score. Sorry about the off topic post. Now on topic, these squatters are probably going to go to jail for this. I think that it is not much different than illegal immigration.

These are people that either couldn't afford to or be responsible enough to live elsewhere, so you think squatters are mowing the lawn, keeping up with utilities, picking up trash, shoveling snow, raking leaves etc.

Squatters are thieving from the neighbors, making more babies and dealing drugs from within a home and neighborhood they have no responsibilty to.

Criminal is as criminal does.

obviously I would prefer them not to be foreclosed on. I have suggested things like 50 year mortgages and things like that. it is a case by case matter, and banks would rather have you in the house than own the house. I am talking about those clowns out there who were making $30k and bought a $300k house. these people have proven that they can't live on credit, and should therefore be denied it.
