Florida Governor Ron DeSantis met privately with former President Donald Trump for several hours on Sunday morning to talk, in part, about fundraising ahead of the 2024 general election, several sources familiar with the meeting tell CBS News.
The meeting was made at the request of DeSantis, according to a senior Trump source with knowledge of the meeting. It was arranged by real estate investor and longtime Trump donor Steve Witkoff. The meeting was first reported by the Washington Post.
I'm sure it was just about fund raising and maybe a cabinet position. DeSantis isn't going to accept a vice president position, he's to smart for that.
Desantis deliberately jumped out of the primary at exactly the right time to give nimrata the best chances at winning. He’s explicitly anti Trump.
Then, why would they even meet?
DeSantis is term limited as FL governor, ending in 2026. He may have concerns about visibility after he leaves that office.
If he is still interested in the presidency (why wouldn't he be? He is an excellent candidate) the VP slot would be a good place for him to be actively visible. Yes, he would have to deal with Trump's ego, that is a fact.
Trump could make him the border czar and let him rip cleaning up that mess.
Many of us that do not like Trump's ego or character would see all this and vote for him anyway, knowing DeSantis is onboard, and in position to have a good chance of getting elected after Trump term limits out.
Trump/DeSantis - 2024
DeSantis/Ramaswamy, Scott, or Cruz - 2028-2036
I could absolutely live with this scenario.
