Just make everything 'same day store pick up'. You can browse online, pay for the order online, then in a couple of hours, go to the store, sit in your car in the lot, and have someone bring your stuff to you. No one goes into the store except the employees.

Done.

Except that most people don't want that. If they did you would have entire parking lots full of "Drive Up" spots being used, not 4 or 6 spots that may have 1 car in it most times of the day while there is another 50-100 people in the store.

How about instead of trying to make things more inconvenient and a hassle for the customer, actually solve the problem by holding the people doing the crimes accountable?

If people were told the truth about how much more they are paying for items, (beyond 'bad economy') due to people stealing, maybe they would be more open to it.

So many people fail to understand that the company is NOT going to take the loss. They are going to raise the price on items, and the consumer is the one who pays for what has been stolen.

So because a criminal is stealing and DAs refuse to prosecute them. The customer(AKA law-abiding citizen) is the one that needs to change and just accept it.

Right out of the Liberal Playbook.

Perhaps if stores made it clear that stealing is costing people money, like a big tote board that everyone can see as they enter the store. People may start to force law enforcement and prosecutors to hold the criminals accountable, not make excuses for them.

There have been shoplifters for years, long before this bs with DAs. If the DAs won't do their damn jobs, which they don't appear to be in any kind of hurry to do, then this is an alternative.

You know which one would work faster? The consumer being inconvenienced by doing same day pick up. They can see a board all they want, and they may get upset at the numbers, but since they can't 'feel' the effects immediately, it won't motivate them in the same way as same day pick up would.

Also, I'm not a liberal. Thinking of other ways to solve a problem does not make someone automatically a 'liberal'. What we're doing right now isn't doing a thing.

Life turned in America when liberals and democrats agreed that arresting people who shoplift was racist. So stores are fighting back.

Even motor oil is locked up at Fred Meyer stores now.
Sounds fun to have the associate walking around for 30 minutes while I finish shopping. Start treating them like your personal shopping assistant. Hey, do you know where the spinach dip is? Could you grab me one of those tangerine La Croix hipster waters off the bottom shelf? Won't take a minute, I just want to look and see if there's any Christmas lights on clearance

This sounds reasonable at firat glance, but the logistics would be impossible for big box stores. Walmart's operating costs to implement it would conceivably exceed 50% of gross sales.

Didn't mean to say you were liberal(I didn't think you were), but this sort of logic is how liberals tend to think.

The consumer who is "inconvenienced" by same-day pickup will find a store that lets them shop. The only one that suffers there is the stores that don't allow customers to "shop". Stores have been complaining about theft for years with little action.
