A quick Google Maps count shows 20 Walgreens locations in the city, presumably including the 5 that are slated to close. With 10 other stores closed since 2019, the city will have lost half of its Walgreens stores in less than two years. Better hurry, shoplifters, before the rest of them close up too. And for the residents who will soon be without their stores . . . next time, vote better.

CVS will just fill the void. After all, CVS will fit in there just great (reference previous CVS thread).
How many Government Officials will be able to connect the dots here?
Theft at these stores is 5 times the companies average.
They are spending 46 times the company average on security measures
California law classifies theft of less than $950 in goods as a nonviolent misdemeanor
Couldn’t they have had people shop online and use a drive thru method?
Why could no one go after this “organized” crime group? Video cameras, police looking on… Way to give this organized crime group more power and confidence.
Sounds like Walgreens wanted out of there. Maybe they received an insurance payout that made it worth it.
If there is a Walgreens, there will be a CVS within a block or so. So hopefully the community won’t suffer. Many people use grocery pharmacies - I do. I love it. The best pharmacy I’ve ever had.
"Organized retail crime continues to be a challenge facing retailers across San Francisco, and we are not immune to that. Retail theft across our San Francisco stores has continued to increase in the past few months to five times our chain average.
"During this time to help combat this issue, we increased our investments in security measures in stores across the city to 46 times our chain average in an effort to provide a safe environment."
[Ahsha Safai, a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors] wrote: "I am completely devastated by this news - this Walgreens is less than a mile from seven schools and has been a staple for seniors, families and children for decades. This closure will significantly impact this community.
I feel sorry for seniors in the neighborhoods that are losing their pharmacies, seniors who will have trouble getting their medications because city government didn't choose to protect Walgreens businesses and customers and instead chose to protect the thieves.
Go soft on crime and criminals and this is what you get. Crime rates are only lowered when the penalty of the crime outweighs the benefits. Limp wristed liberals could learn something here, but they won't.

Bingo
Perhaps they’ll learn something when the criminals have nobody to steal from than them.
They'll have to go to a drive thru only model, or put everything worth more than a couple of bucks behind locked shelving like places eventually did with tobacco products. Companies will just have to adapt if they still want to stay in business in these areas.
There’s a root cause of theft and poverty. And Walgreens is closing stores because everything is going online now.
What an embarrassingly uniformed comment to make. Do you really not realize who ends up paying for all of this theft?
It sure as hell isn't Walgreens.
