Settling into a new normal. (economy, Walmart, money)

So today I went out for my weekly shop. Made a list and was sticking to it.

Still can't find active dry yeast but didn't need it because there was bread everywhere.

Ground beef -- the guy at Publix was loading it up -- and it was on sale.

Produce galore.

Used my wipes, hand sanitizer...everyone stayed away -- even at the Walmart.

People were friendly, patient, kind. Wearing gloves, masks and lots of wipes.

Honestly -- I almost feel safer shopping now with how clean the stores are. They literally disinfect after every customer at the self help check out line

I was too lazy to get up for the early morning senior thing and you know what, I think that was the good thing. Mid-day there were people but not crowds. And they keep restocking now.

The stores were so well staffed and they were so ready to help anyway they could.

Only hoarding - -one woman had lots of amonia and borax. EEEK - -- poor thing I'd hate to think what she has to clean with that stuff.

Not social distancing -- staff at the Walmart -- one little group of four hanging around chit chatting.

I think we are settling in.

All the hoarders are home stacking toilet paper rolls in their bunkers.

Same thing here in Los Angeles area.

Went to Costco and Vons in the afternoon. No shortage of fresh food. They have TP now. Everyone is nice and keep their distance.

You probably already know this, but with whole grain flour and water you can make yeast at home.

Alternatively, try to order Saf-Instant online.

I'm not a hoarder but I always have more than enough food. I think I must have a little bit of a fear of running out. I was brought up iwth a plentiful pantry so I live like that.

So all this talk of empty shelves, etc....gets me a little anxious. I wasn't desperate for stuff but wanted a couple of things and didn't want to wait until I was desperate.

AND you can use brewers yeast and there is lots of that.

But honestly I have enough bread now. We aren't huge bread eaters but like a little.

But thanks for that.

AND I know there are some breads that don't require yeast.

But you know how sometimes you get an idea in your head. I was thinking I NEEDED yeast. I'm okay now-- lol.

The "new normal" hasn't been seen yet. It will depend primarily on how bad the economy gets. After this bug has passed, if the economy doesn't get back to normal, people aren't going to care much about wiping down shopping carts, because they won't have money with which to shop.
